Virginia Adventures II

Today is Paddy and I's fourth wedding anniversary. We were married in the back yard of our Oregon property. The lead up to the wedding was very busy: trying to get the venue ready, trying to finish last minute fixes, cleaning, arrangements.  At some point, the time ran out to get things done, and there was a relaxation as we realized that, whatever wasn't finished, wasn't going to get finished, and didn't matter. We had family, friends, food, an officiant, a bride, a groom. The beauty of the day was exceptional, and we had animals and children running, a beautiful ceremony, and an excellent party.

This year, we're in the midst of preparing to move across the country. We'll be leaving the venue behind, for other people to make memories. Today it hits hard, the fact of that move. So much has happened here, and while the memories will remain, the physical reminders will be left behind.

There is much to do, but much like the wedding, whatever doesn't get finished when time runs out, won't get done, and won't matter. There are milestones to meet, and we're meeting them:

  • The Sellers have secured a lawyer to write up the contract, which is the process in Virginia.
  • We've scheduled the home inspection
  • The Sellers have done the septic pumping and inspection, and the well inspection is scheduled.
  • We've met with our real estate agent, Kelly Hagglund, and she's scheduled our photographer for Monday, our property in Amity should be listed by Wednesday.
There is much to be done:
  • We need to sell some of our belongings, as it's expensive to move all the way across the country. So this weekend, we're having a barn/moving sale.  Come on out if you need stuff.
  • We need to get our mortgage pre-approved, that's in the works
  • We need to sell our place
  • We need to get our contract signed with the property in Virginia.
While much will be left behind, much will be gained. We've needed a lot more land to do what we've planned, and the Virginia property is more than sufficient. We'll be close to a lot of culture I've wanted to see: Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home) is 3 hours away, Montpelier (James Madison's home) is nearby. Mt. Vernon is about 4 hours away. Washington DC is about 5 hours. The Outer Banks of North Carolina is relatively close.

Below is a picture of the fireplace in Virginia. The mantle was painted by the original owner, way back. I don't have a lot of the history yet.  I will.

Also included for your viewing pleasure is the Sexy Beast. I'm not sure if that will be staying on the property, but I covet it with a great deal of desire.
